Facebook Wedding Update

During the most romantic moment of his entire life, a groom decided to interrupt his wedding ceremony to update his Facebook status from his mobile phone.
As soon as the minister pronounce the couple man and wife, the groom whipped out his phone immediately to update his Facebook page AND Twitter.

The minister was in on the joke, and announced that the groom was busy updating his relationship status at the earliest opportunity, leaving the wedding guests in fits of laughter.

He also Tweeted: “Standing at the altar with TracyPage where just a second ago, she became my wife! Gotta go, time to kiss my bride.” Before doing so, he passed his new bride a phone for her to also update her Facebook status from “in a relationship” to “married”.

The un-named groom said on YouTube : “This was just done to be funny – we really don’t Facebook THAT often:).
“I have a lot of family scattered around the country and we all use Facebook a lot to keep in touch. So when Tracy and I were engaged, most of my family found out via Facebook because we updated our statuses.

If you can’t believe this would actually happen in the middle of someone’s wedding ceremony, here’s the clip for you to see :

Trash the wedding dress – wedding photo contest

It’s become a bit of a new tradition in weddings, perhaps not a very popular one, but certainly one of the most fun.

The idea is simple, you spend your hard earned money on a beautiful wedding dress, take part in your dream ceremony, marry the man of your dreams surrounded by your nearest and dearest. The perfect day.

Then, you trash your wedding dress…… yes, ruin it forever. You up for it ?

We think perhaps this tradition won’t be quite as popular as wearing a garter, or throwing the bouquet over your shoulder, this new wedding tradition certainly isn’t for everyone. However, it does seem to have one very significant benefit going for it, hilarious, entertaining wedding photos. That is if you can get your wedding photographer to agree to it, you wouldn’t want to ruin your wedding dress and then miss out on the fun memories.

These kind of photos require skill and good timing, here is a collection of various “Trash the Dress contest” run by the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) who hold an annual competition.

Snog, Marry, Avoid – Wedding Special

Snog Marry Avoid Wedding Special

Snog Marry Avoid Wedding Special

The BBC3 TV show, Snog, Marry, Avoid are trying to put together a wedding special, and are looking for people who are planning their wedding in the next few months…. is that you ?

For those of you who have never seen Snog, Marry, Avoid, it’s a fun programme that involves overly glamorous or more often, simply outrageous people, who favour a “fake wedding” look over their natural beauty.

A computer called P.O.D. (Personal Overhaul Device) who does not compute their “fakery” reveals to them what the public think of their image, by asking passers by in the street whether they would choose to Snog, Marry or Avoid them. The P.O.D. then arranges them a makeunder rather than a makeover, leaving them a more natural wedding look.

So if you’re wedding is planned for the next 3 months, and fancy getting involved in a bit of fun on the BBC, get in touch with Kerry on the following email address – kerry.plant@endemoluk.com and tell her Essex Wedding Services sent you along.

Rent a wedding family

Just when you think the global recession is affecting large and lavish wedding planning around the world, a story like this one pops up….

Rent wedding guests

With the Japanese wedding season in full swing, instead of cutting corners in the wedding planning, Japanese couples are now renting fake family and friends to boost the size of their wedding day and presumably make themselves look more popular then they actually are.

Many people in Japan see their wedding as a very formal event, which must be attended by as many friends, family and colleagues as possible.
The story stems from the fact that at a wedding in Japan, your boss may make a speech, your friends put on some sort of stage show as entertainment and your family greet the wedding guests.
The trouble is, if you’ve got little friends, a small family and not too many colleagues, you look like someone with little importance.

Make yourself look popular on your wedding day

That’s where Hiroshi Mizutant comes in, he runs Tokyo based Office Agents that rents fake friends to brides and grooms who want to look popular and important on their wedding day.

“We’ll attend the wedding as your friend instead of your friend,” Hiroshi told Reuters.

“Suddenly, a guest might not be able to make it. Or maybe you are concerned about the gap in the number of guests you have compared to your partner. Or, there are many temp workers these days and they may be uncomfortable inviting the boss.”

For the price of 20,000 yen (around £200) – you can rent one of their staff to attend your wedding ceremony. If just turning up isn’t enough for you, then splash out another 5,000 yen and they’ll perform at the wedding by singing or dancing. For 35,000 yen the hired help will make a heart rendering speech about how wonderful you are. Presumably prepared well in advance, and not a 5 minute rambling about having just met you a moment ago.

You may think that as the recession hits Japan, the idea of wasting more money on hiring fake co-workers for your wedding would put people off, but it’s actually having an opposite effect. Work related requests are on the rise, as bosses may of lost their jobs, or team mates moved on.

Fake friends for your wedding

Mizutani stated that at one wedding, his company provided the groom with all 30 of his family, friends and co-workers purely because it was his 2nd wedding and wished to avoid inviting the same wedding guests a second time.

With about 100 requests for fake wedding guests each year, the company has around 1,000 fakers ready to stand in at any occasion, including funerals and training seminars.

“What’s important is that these are normal people… normal as in they are cheery and clean and look like they have regular jobs,” Mizutani said.

There have even been occasions when the marriage partner is totally unaware of the fake wedding guests.

“People are proud and they don’t want to tell their partner that they do not have many friends,” Mizutani said.

So if you’re planning your wedding budget, would you consider making yourself look popular by spending money on people acting as your friends?

Lose weight on your wedding day

In our last post we were looking at the costs faced by wedding guests attending your wedding day, but this story completely shadows the £600 odd quid, leaving the wedding guests roughly £3,250 out of pocket for the privilege of celebrating your big day.

The reason for this high cost is that Noah & Erin have chosen a rather odd weightlessness wedding on-board an aircraft at the Cape Canaveral centre in Florida USA.

The couple will exchange vows in a specially designed jet that can simulate weightlessness similar to the feeling created by a spaceship in orbit.

Noah Fulmar, 31 will offer Erin Finnegan, 30, a wedding ring, specially made of fragments of a meteorite that crashed into the Earth 30,000 years ago.

Recently we reported EasyJet weddings planned by the airline company, which have since be refused by their local authority. But in Florida it seems, not only can you get married on a jet, but one that includes 15 roller-coaster style dives where the plane plummets from 36,000 feet to 24,000 feet and then climbs back up for another 30 second weightless drop for the bride and groom.

Son of an astronaut, Richard Garriott the British space tourist and adventurer will officiate at the ceremony during the Boeing 727 90-minute flight – the only way to experience weightlessness without heading into orbit.

The bride will apparently attend the unusual wedding ceremony by wearing a designer wedding dress, equipped with trousers to protect her modesty during weightlessness.

“Noah wanted to get married in space but we probably won’t be able to afford it for another 25 to 50 years – so I suggested this as a compromise,” she said.

Mr Fulmor admitted his mother thinks he is “absolutely nuts”.

The wedding is set for June 20th this year, and although we’ve reported some weird and wonderful weddings lately, this one could well top the list.
Having seen the making of the movie Apollo 13 where Tom Hanks describes the weightlessness process as the “spew tube” where so many of the crew and cast were sick during the 90 minute flight, we’re not entirely sure that the bride and groom have thought this through very well. The interior of the aircraft, replicates levels of weightlessness found on Mars or the Moon and has padded surfaces as travellers uncontrollably bash into the sides of the jet.

The slightly mad, but adventurous pair, who met at a science fiction club in their home city of New York, will honeymoon in Antarctica – hopefully on a standard flight to their destination.

EasyJet Weddings

Easy Jet Wedding Ceremony

Yes, you read the title correctly, bargain flight company EasyJet are planning a little twist to a standard flight with a budget airline company – they are talking about couples getting married on an Easy Jet plane.

According to our sources, Easy Jet have applied to Luton council for a licence to perform in-flight weddings. Let’s hope that Luton council does the decent thing and sees this as a shameless publicity stunt aimed at making Ryan Air jealous – as they are the kings of rubbish press releases to gain free publicity – remember the paying to use the toilet story ?!

Picture the scene, the wedding guests all in their finest, queuing to check their bags in at Luton, then a stampede to the bright orange air bus to fight for a seat near the front of the wedding ceremony.

In flight weddings

The groom manages not to be sick on take-off, stands patiently in line for a quick use of the toilet to shake off last minute nerves, then finally the beautiful blushing bride walks down the aisle knocking into elbows and dodging the curly cheese sandwich cart with the usual baby screaming in the background. No father to link arms with because there is only room for one person at a time down the aisle. Painting a picture of a lovely wedding to remember so far ? Perhaps not.

The East Jet wedding idea is supported by Jeffery Husson, who is a captain at EasyJet : “To officiate a wedding would be a special honour for me. It would be exciting if I could marry couples above the clouds,” he said to the Daily Telegraph. However, I for one think I may prefer him to focus on flying the plane.

Cheap flights to your honeymoon

Alright, maybe we shouldn’t be so harsh on the airline company, we are in tough times and the thought that you could use the flight to double up as the trip to your honeymoon, but what do all the wedding guests do when they arrive ? Presumably have a drink to celebrate and then fly straight back again, either that or stay for a week or two spoiling your honeymoon.

With EasyJet planning to become a wedding venue in the sky it leaves us wondering whatever next, Tesco to provide ceremonies in their aisles ? McDonalds to offer drive-through weddings…?

Star Wars wedding

Star Wars wedding

After last week we brought you the heart warming fairytale story of a couple deciding to marry as Shrek and Fiona, this week’s look at unique wedding ideas, brings us to a couple who happily planned a Star Wars Wedding.

With the groom deciding to dress as Captain Han Solo, the bride (of course) opted to be his love interest from the movie – Princess Leia.
Duncan Thomson, 41, and Sammi Gardiner, 39, chose the unusual wedding ceremony after their obsession with the classic Star Wars movies, surrounded by their wedding guests who were also asked to dress as characters from the films.

Star Wars Day – May the 4th be with you.

Choosing the unofficial annual “Star Wars Day” of May the 4th as their wedding date, for those of you who are not quite up with the films, the date is significant as the happy couple billed the wedding as “May the 4th be with you” – if you still don’t get that, it’s a pun on the movies famous phrase.

The couple from the Isle of Wight even went as far as to invite the creator of Star Wars, George Lucas. Unfortunately the director was unable to attend the wedding, possibly due to the fact his wookie costume was at the dry cleaners, possibly not. In actual fact Lucas returned a RSVP letter to the couple bearing his Skywalker Ranch stamp saying he could not make it.

May the 4th be with you.

May the 4th be with you.

Star Wars Wedding Vows

Using the movies scenes to exchange their marital vows, Mr Thomson wowed his bride with such vows as “I promise to protect you from carbon freezing and promise to protect you from the Dark Side, through hyperspace and into the far reaches of the galaxy.”

During the Star Wars wedding ceremony in Shanklin, on the Isle of Wight, the groom’s best man was his 18-year-old son Kieren who (of course) played the role of Han Solo’s sidekick Chewbacca, and his daughter Charlotte was dressed as Queen Padme Amidala.

The wedding even had a Darth Vader, hopefully a friendly version, who delivered the readings, again in the style of Star Wars scripts. Vader was “protected” at the wedding by two of his Imperial Stormtroopers, whilst reading verses such as “Members of the Galactic Empire, Duncan and Sammi met a long time ago, in a place far, far away. The force is strong with these two.” And “If you do not underestimate the power of marriage then together you can rule your house as husband and wife.”

According to our source, Duncan and Sammi chose the unusual wedding theme after their romantic first date 4 years before was a trip to a cinema, where they (of course) watched Star Wars – Revenge of the Sith.

As UK law does not allow any religious references in civil services, the couple had to omit certain terms from their unique wedding vows as the word “Jedi” is now a recognised religious religion in this country. Bizarre but true.

We’d love to see the wedding video – hopefully the videographer used plenty of the dramatic musical score in the background.

Having found a Shrek wedding and now a Star Wars wedding, Essex Wedding Services is on the look out for more unique or strange wedding themes, if you spot any, keep us posted and we’ll do our homework to get something on the blog.
