Wedding day music choices

When you’re planning your wedding day, one of the things you’ll have to decide on is the music. A lot of couples initially think of the song they’ll have for their first dance, but what about music during the rest of the day ?
If you’re getting married in a wedding venue, rather then a church, you’ll need to think about your music choices carefully.
Depending on your wedding budget, you may choose for a live musical artist to play background music, such as a solo guitarist, harpist or pianist, all of which make a wonderful romantic atmosphere. Hiring a professional musician for your wedding makes a beautiful wedding venue seem even more magical, and becomes a fantastic talking point for your wedding guests.
Most artists who perform at weddings have a vast selection of musical choices, and some if given enough time would be willing to learn a new piece of music if you request something special for your wedding.
If you’re planning on hiring a live musician for background music, make sure you meet up with them before the wedding and listen to them play before confirming the booking. Here a sample of the music they intend to play and make sure it is fitting for your wedding.
Another option is of course simply playing CD’s. Being able to play your favourite songs at the wedding is very important for couples, so ensure you spend enough time to work out which of your favourite songs will fit into which part of the wedding.
When sitting down to decide what music you’re going to have at your wedding, consider the following options :
Bridal entrance music
This is the piece of music that will make most of the wedding guests cry. The beautiful moment when the bride enters the ceremony will remain etched in everyone’s memories for ever, so ensure your music choice represents everything about your love together.
Non-church weddings in the UK do not allow any music with religious wording at all. Songs like “Heaven is a place on earth” or “Angels” are not allowed. A good way to avoid this is to choose instrumental music.
Signing the registrar music
Once the talking is all done, and you’re officially the new Mr & Mrs, you’ll need to spend some time with your witnesses signing the registrar to get your marriage certificate. While all the wedding guests are sitting quietly chatting about how wonderful everything is, you’ll want some more background music to reinforce how romantic the day is. You’ll be surprised how long this may take, so have a few songs ready, as one may not be long enough.
Leaving the ceremony music
You’ll both walk back down the aisle together as man and wife, so choose an uplifting piece of music for this moment.
Bride & Grooms entrance to the wedding meal
If you have a toastmaster, they’ll do a formal introduction to the new bride and groom when everyone else has taken their seats. Once the toastmaster has introduced you, your entrance will be even more spectacular with a nice uplifting piece of music for your wedding guests to cheer you.
Music during the meal
Again, background music needs to be chosen well, this is the time where a live musician will really stand out should you choose to hire them. However recorded music can also set a wonderful atmosphere during the meal. Something romantic, but a little lively is required, jazz or soul music is great.
First dance as man and wife
Most people choose the one song that is “your song” every couple has one. It’s the song that when you hear it, you immediately thing of your partner. It’ll probably be the one piece of music that all the wedding guests will remember.
Allow yourself plenty of time to make your musical selections, getting it right will make areal difference on your wedding day.
Happy Wedding Planning!
