Square wedding cakes
We’ve been studying a few wedding cakes lately, well, when we say studying we actually mean eating, or perhaps “sampling” is a better way to describe it.
Either way, the wedding cake is often the pinnacle of a wedding day, the first duty performed by man & wife is the cutting of the cake, something to be photographed and shared amongst all your wedding guests, the cake is a fantastic tradition to be enjoyed by all.
Having considered ourselves as semi-professional cake tasters, we thought we’d look into unusual wedding cake ideas, and something we stumbled across was the increase in popularity of the square wedding cake, rather then the more traditional round version with many contemporary brides opting for this slightly more unusual choice.
Of course wedding cakes can come in all kinds of styles, shapes, sizes and flavours but the majority of them remain round.
A square wedding cake not only looks an unusual style for your wedding but it can also deliver nice clean lines looking elegant and modern. It’s worth remembering that when it comes to wedding cakes, anything is achievable so ensure you put a lot of thought into the style you’d like.
Perhaps a more rectangular shaped cake would suit you more, or maybe rounded off corners to add a little more to the design idea?
Why not search Google images for wedding cake ideas, it’s amazing how looking at a few different styles would get your mind ticking over. Print off any favourite styles you find, and ask your wedding cake maker if they are capable of recreating exactly what you want.
Your wedding cake is going to be in a great deal of photographs, so it’s well worth spending some time thinking over ideas.
Choosing a square wedding cake may open other ideas for you too, why not find some nice small square boxes for slices of the cake to be placed in – these boxes could match your wedding color scheme and look beautiful with a nice ribbon tied on. This not only looks very effective and attractive, but is perfect to store a slice of wedding cake to be passed to a guest that could not attend the wedding.
Square wedding cakes also look very effective with ribbon around them, and decorating them is easier too.
If you were looking at saving some money, your baker could make an additional square cake without as much decoration simply for dividing out amongst guests. This means you could have a smaller more affordable decorative square wedding cake for cutting and photographs, but when the caterers cut up the cake for sharing, could then cut the additional cake also.
Choosing a wedding cake is great fun, speak to plenty of people about it, look for as many different design ideas as you can, and try to visualise that cake in photographs you’ll treasure for the rest of your married life.
