Choosing your wedding flowers

Dependent on the month you are getting married, your wedding florist will have a different aray of flowers available to them.
If you are someone who would like a big say in choosing your blooms, then it’s best to discuss your options with a professional wedding florist, to see what flowers will be available for the time of year you are planning to marry.

So, where do you start when selecting your wedding flowers….

Spring Weddings

Orchids are perfect for spring bridal bouquets, as they are a sign of beauty.
Phalaenopis Orchids are larger flowers that really make a big statement while Catlaya Orchids are beautiful for romantic weddings as they are normally white with shades of pink or lavender around the centre.
Anemone is said to represent unfading love and a ray of colours such as reds, pinks and purples, while for a fantastic centrepiece, daffodils range from yellows to white.

Summer Weddings

Forget-me-not and Stephantis are ideal wedding flowers for summer months. Both are small blue flowers with shorter stems, said to represent true love.
If you’re looking to fill your bouquets with colour, then forget-me knots are great this, whilst Stephantis are white, waxy flowers which will make excellent button holes for the wedding party.
Chrysanthemums are colourful daisy like blooms. The lime green satin variety of chrysanthemums is perfect for complimenting a bright bridal bouquet if that matches your wedding scheme.
Carnations are a symbol of good health and energy and an affordable way of filling the room with great floral displays, while sunflowers are always a summer favorite and can make fantastic centre pieces on the guests tables.

Autumn Weddings

A lot of people think Autumns is all about dark reads and browns, but this needn’t be the case at all. The pink illusion Rose looks bright and fantastic in bouquets. For a more mellow autumn wedding, Gladiolus come in a warm, soft peachy colour, or maybe a bright red exotic bird of paradise for a more bolder look.
White heather is said to represent protection, and honeysuckle is a symbol of generosity.

Winter Weddings

Filling the wedding venues with a wintry yet cosy feel you could opt for holly berries, snowdrop and deep red roses which will add some glamour to bouquets or table arrangements.
Lilac has a delightful scent and livens up centrepieces while red poinsettia look beautiful with mixed tulips and roses.
You may find that during the winter months, there is a little less choice when it comes to your wedding flowers, but let the wedding florist create a nice mixture of foliage and wintry berries to look great and set the scene for a beautiful winter wedding day.

Quick wedding tip number 4

Charming wedding favours that also serve as great place markers are miniature picture frames.
Check out discount and outlet stores for inexpensive silver-plate or enamelled versions.

Simply slip a piece of paper with a nicely printed guest’s name on it into each individual frame.

Unusual Wedding Cakes – The Muppets Show

Looking for a wedding cake that is a little different from the rest ?

Perhaps you don’t want a traditional tiered white icing, fruit wedding cake ?
Well there are some very good wedding cakes in Essex that’ll look and taste utterly fantastic on your wedding day, but today, we’ve found one of the most unusual wedding cakes of all.

Regardless of whether you’re a big fan of children’s TV shows or not, you have to be impressed by this wonderful creation that we stumbled across this week.
Apparently it’s the winner of the 2007 Kentucky State Fair in the US, not surprisingly really.
I’m not sure that I could bring myself to eat poor little Kermit though.

Chocolate wedding dress

If you’re looking for a different twist on your wedding day, perhaps this story may be for you.
Award winning bridalwear designer Ian Stuart has created a rather unique chocolate wedding dress to celebrate Chocolate week (13/10/08 – 19/10/08) along with chocolatiers Rococo.

Winners of the 2008 Academy of Chocolate’s lifetime achievement award (yes there really is such a thing) Rococo Chocolates have been producing top notch chocolates for over 25 years.
Chantel Cody of Rococo commented “Ian and I have long talked about this crazy idea of making a chocolate wedding dress. Chocolate Week seemed the perfect moment to combine Ian Stuarts’s design talents with Rococo’s creativity in chocolate.”

Wedding day music choices

When you’re planning your wedding day, one of the things you’ll have to decide on is the music. A lot of couples initially think of the song they’ll have for their first dance, but what about music during the rest of the day ?

If you’re getting married in a wedding venue, rather then a church, you’ll need to think about your music choices carefully.
Depending on your wedding budget, you may choose for a live musical artist to play background music, such as a solo guitarist, harpist or pianist, all of which make a wonderful romantic atmosphere. Hiring a professional musician for your wedding makes a beautiful wedding venue seem even more magical, and becomes a fantastic talking point for your wedding guests.
Most artists who perform at weddings have a vast selection of musical choices, and some if given enough time would be willing to learn a new piece of music if you request something special for your wedding.
If you’re planning on hiring a live musician for background music, make sure you meet up with them before the wedding and listen to them play before confirming the booking. Here a sample of the music they intend to play and make sure it is fitting for your wedding.

Bridal Make-up Artists, are they worth the money?

So your big day is approaching, you have chosen the flowers, the cake and most importantly the dress! One thing you may or may not be considering is a make-up artist, you might be thinking are they worth the money? Well here are a few reasons why a make-up artist may be a valued expense for you.

Firstly a professional make-up artist will understand the importance of your day going smoothly, they will be on hand to ensure that you have one less thing to worry about, they will work with you and to your requirements ensuring you are 100% happy with the results and after all those months of planning, when your wedding day arrives every bride deserves to be pampered a little, right?
Also they will extend their services to your wedding party, meaning the bridesmaids and mother of the bride all get a little pampering too!

Furthermore a professional make-up artist will only use premium brand products ensuring a flawless and long lasting finish, given that your day will be recorded in pictures and film you would be forgiven for wanting to look radiant and beautiful throughout the whole day and long into the evening. Quality products and professional application will ensure this is the case. Not only that but a trained professional will be able to work with any skin type, colour and tone and will know how to enhance your natural features.

Quick wedding tip number 3

Getting married during the warm summer months?
Instead of the traditional programs, consider printing your wedding program in an elegant script on both sides of thick oak tag, and then attach small handles to make hand fans for all your guests. Scallop the edges with craft scissors and tie ribbons around the handles for a finishing touch.
