Disposable cameras at your wedding ? Why not go digital ?

We’ve all been to weddings where the bride and groom have bought a disposable camera and placed one on every table for the wedding guests to snap away capturing the wonderful day through the eyes of different people.
It’s a fantastic idea, but is usually ruined by very poor end results.
This is because disposable cameras get treated as disposable cameras, and you’re often left with really poor quality images that end up as disposable photographs.

It’s a real shame, as who better to capture all the memories and fun with candid shots of the wedding reception from the people who matter the most, all your friends and family. And there really is no better way to remember your day then to have photographs taken from all corners and all angles of the wedding reception.

The idea is a simple one, give all your wedding guests disposable cameras to snap away and you’ll receive hundreds of truly memorable photos of your wedding day, seen through the eyes of the people who matter the most to you. Fantastic !
There’s nothing wrong with the idea, just the fact that nothing else on your wedding day is disposable, and unfortunately the wedding guests treat it as such, and you’re left with mainly shots of the floor, or two people holding the camera at arms length taking a photo of themselves. (We’ve all done that before!)

The worst part about disposable cameras is by far the development of them all. Picture it, you’ve just returned from your honeymoon to find that bag full of cameras all sitting there, some half used others full, and you’re desperate to see the images on them.
So, off you go to the photo lab, and pay another small fortune (on top of your already very expensive wedding day) to get them all developed.
What you tend to end up with is a couple of hundred photos, one or two of which are reasonable and the rest are pretty poor quality.
You’ve spent all that money on them, so you want to keep them all, perhaps your family may even want copies too, so that will be extra prints.
It’s such a shame that a great idea often ends up as an expensive disappointment.

So, what’s the solution ?

We’ll we’ve spent a little time searching the internet for wedding ideas, so you don’t have to. And we think we’ve found an even better idea – you can hire digital cameras for your wedding day.

We found a website – www.lastingmoments.co.uk who will for £9.95 per camera (about £2 more then a disposable camera) will lend you a box of quality digital cameras for you to place on the tables of your wedding guests at the reception.
Brilliant !

Not only can all your guests capture the images of the day, digital cameras capture little video clips too, which is fantastic to look back upon in years to come.
The photos are easily transported onto your own PC, you can get them printed at a much lower cost then disposable cameras, and you can order individual prints, ignoring all the rubbish photos that the more “relaxed” wedding guest took.
Digital cameras are so much more fun to use for the wedding guests, and they’ll also be a big talking point at the wedding as most people will be surprised not to see the disposable ones.

Another benefit of digital cameras is that you can get the images made into a book, for example bobbooks.co.uk offer photobooks that you can create yourself online, using all the high quality photos that the wedding guests took on the digital cameras. Professional wedding photographers charge a fortune for one of these books, but bobbooks offer a 48 page photobook for around £50.

So when you’re planning your wedding day, consider whether you want a bunch of disposable cameras with poor quality images that are expensive to develop, or whether you’d like modern high quality digital photos taken by your guests that you can print cheaply and store on your own PC.

Our final tip is that you ensure all your guests are aware that the digital cameras are on hire, and are not gifts for them all ! Obviously these cameras need returning, so you won’t want to lose any.
