Why get married on a Saturday ?
Each year more couples are opting for a non-Saturday wedding in favour of tying the knot on a weekday, or even a Sunday.
Recent research suggests that over the last 5 years, weddings on a Friday have increased by 5 percent which is around 12,000 couples.
Probably the main reason behind this change is that wedding venues and other wedding services charge a lower rate for weekdays rather then the traditional Saturday wedding day. With the credit crunch going on at the moment this seems like a good option for brides and grooms to take, after all, if your nearest and dearest can’t make time for your wedding on a Friday, then should they be invited in the first place?
August remains the most popular month to get married in*, but during the last 2 years the weather in August has just been awful – August is of course the peak cost for all wedding venues too, due to this demand. One in every five brides still choose August for their wedding day though.
Statistically speaking, January is the least popular month to tie the knot, and a Tuesday is the least popular day of the week, so if you’re on a tight wedding budget, speak to your dream wedding venue and ask them what massive discount they can offer for a Tuesday in January – you may be amazed with what they come back with.
Although the traditional white dress, church wedding, Saturday in August is fantastic for some, many couples are opting for celebrations on Fridays now, but what about the few bank holidays we get across the summer months also ?
There are two in May and one late in August, which opens the Sunday before as a perfect day for a celebration, assuming that most of the country has a day off on the Monday after.
The other benefits of a midweek wedding are that not so many other couples would of chosen the same day, so if you were marrying in a registry office, you wouldn’t be bundled out of the door straight away to make room for the next ceremony waiting in the hallway.

If the credit crunch starts taking a grip on wedding venues and reception halls, you can be assured that these services will start offering some wonderful deals on midweek weddings to fill up gaps in their diaries.
As Friday weddings are on the increase, you won’t see much reduction in prices from your wedding services, but it’s still a great day to have your celebration on, even if it’s just to extend the weekend, and then plan another little get together for all the family and friends again on the Saturday or Sunday.
This gives everyone a perfect opportunity to swap stories of the wedding day and wish you a fond farewell before you head off for your honeymoon.
So when you’ve just announced your engagement, don’t immediately plan a Saturday in August, have a good look at the calendar and decide what days are possible for you.
