Wedding favours – more then just sugared almonds
Wedding favours are those little trinkets that all the wedding guests receive, normally left at their place settings, during the meal. They are a keepsake of the day, a memory of the wedding for the guests to take home, traditionally left for the female guests, but now the guys seem to get them too.
Why are they called wedding favours …..? We don’t actually know, maybe you could leave comments below if you know the reason and educate us a little.
Sugared Almonds in a small netted bag seemed the be the classic tradition, but these days the list is endless. We think that the favours should represent the bride and groom a little, and that the male wedding guests should receive their token keepsake from the groom, leaving the bride to plan the favour for her female wedding guests.
Think a bit about what you like, do your friends know you as a bit of a chocoholic ? If so, why not look for some heart shaped chocolates, perhaps wrapped in foil the same colour as your wedding theme ?
How about miniature bottles of your favorite tipples ? You can find some great companies that will personalise your bottles with a label printed with the bride and groom’s name and the date of the wedding. So if perhaps red wine is your favourite, or maybe baileys for your partner, then one variety could be given to the gents and the other to the ladies as the wedding favour.
One wedding that we attended had pens for wedding favours, but not ordinary pens, these were big fluffy birds that stood on feet and had large beaks. The bird pen that was given to the ladies was a big white fluffy one made out to be a bride, and the gents received a black fluffy one with a top hat made out to be the groom. Everyone loved them, not only did they brighten up the wedding, but they were a fantastic keepsake for all the wedding guests.
It’s quite easy to make your own wedding favours too, you can buy little boxes from a lot of wedding retailers, and fill them with whatever you fancy. Buy different boxes for the male wedding guests, perhaps a tuxedo box, and a handbag style box for the female wedding guests ?
There are plenty of wedding favour ideas, all you need to do is think of something that will represent you in some way, and also act as a genuine keepsake of the day – something that old-fashioned sugared almonds perhaps don’t.
Ideas we’ve thought of are – personalised sticks of rock, small teddy bears, scented candles, fridge magnets, his & hers rubber ducks. But perhaps you’d prefer to make one of your guests very happy and place a lucky lottery ticket on their tables ? How good would that make the wedding if the DJ announced the lucky numbers and one of the wedding guests became a millionaire ?
Also, consider your younger guests too, they may get a little bored during the meal and especially during all those wedding speeches, so why not give them a little activity pack to keep them entertained?
SO when you’re out looking for wedding favours for your guests, don’t just buy the sugared almonds (unless you really want to of course) consider a personalised little touch for the wedding guests, something that will brighten up their day, and something they can treasure from your wonderful wedding day.
Happy Wedding Planning.
